Treatment Information

Consultation procedures

The consultation procedure at Skin Deep is a three part process for any facial treatments.

Questionnaire: Information is taken regarding medical history, lifestyle choices and environmental factors which may affect the skin. Previous treatments, homecare and skin care routine.

Before any treatment begins it is important that we assess your skins overall appearance and identify any problems at Skin Deep skin analysis is a two part process.

Skin Scan: This is a painless procedure highlighting any imperfections not visible to the naked eye.

Skin Analysis: We assess each part of the skin to assess your treatment needs.

Treatment Planning

Specific skin concerns that clients have will differ between individuals. At SkinDeep we realise everyone's needs cannot always be met by picking a treatment from a list. For many individuals a bespoke plan will need to be designed which may incorporate two or three treatments from the Treatment Menu to be carried out over a period of weeks. This bespoke planning is ideal for those clients really wanting to make a change to their skin and be on their way to 'Achieving Skin Excellence'.

Consultation procedure for IPL

After the initial consultation, we will determine your skin type on the Fitzpatrick scale and your hair type to be able to design a treatment plan specifically for you. A "patch test" will also be performed. This is to determine how sensitive your skin is to the treatment and also to establish the right IPL energy settings.

Dermapen

What is Dermapen?

Dermapen® is a medically approved electronic micro needling device that is used to rejuvenate the skin and improve the skin surface by reducing fine lines, expression lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and acne scars.

The concept of Micro Needling is based on the skin's natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. As the Micro Needling device moves across the skin, it makes pinpoint punctures to create very minor micro-"injuries." In response to the perceived "injury," a cascade of growth factors are released, which in turn triggers new collagen synthesis.

This process has two major benefits - it effectively stimulates collagen formation and provides a clear channel for topical serums to be absorbed through the surface of the skin. Triggering the healing process with a series of treatments, the body will keep repairing the skin incrementally and cumulatively to offer a fabulous result.

The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Once the desired result has been achieved, it is important to maintain collagen stimulation by returning for maintenance treatments.

What does Dermapen Treat?

  • Lifts, tightens and rejuvenates skin.
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Improves stretch marks.
  • Reduces enlarged pores.
  • Improves acne scars.
  • Enhances deeper product penetration.
  • Increase product efficiency.
  • For all skin types including darker skins.
  • Any part of the body can be treated.
  • Minimum down time, faster healing.

Dermapen procedure:

Micro Needling is performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile, disposable tip that allows effective treatment to hard-to-reach places (e.g. around the eyes, nose, and lips). Prior to the treatment mesopeel will be applied to enhance results. The basic Micro Needling treatment includes the application of healing gels and serums during the treatment. The entire treatment is normally completed within 30-60 minutes depending on the required treatment and the anatomical site. New healthy skin appears within 4 weeks after treatment and can last up to two years.

How does treatment feel?

Unlike other methods of needling, the oscillating motor featured with Pen technology dissipates nerve receptors allowing for a painless and comfortable treatment; all that is felt is a mild vibrating sensation with light pressure.

What will my skin be like afterwards?

Dermapen treatment allows for effortless needling with minimal downtime.

The sensitivity and redness will diminish significantly within 24 hours.

The appearance of petechiae or small blood blisters is common and perfectly normal around areas of thinner skin quality especially around the eye area which usually disappear within 3-4 days.

This may be accompanied by a feeling of tightness and the appearance of slight flaking. A non-occlusive mineral make-up may be used to conceal any redness immediately after the treatment.

Other common short-term side effects include itching, discomfort, pinpoint bleeding. Additionally, the skin may look and feel like it has a rough texture; these effects generally last 2-7 days as the treated skin flakes off and is replaced by new improved tissue.

Homecare Advice

  • Use recommended daily skincare & SPF to relieve the symptoms of redness, inflammation, swelling, tightness or flakiness and protect from further sun damage.
  • During recovery, the use of scrubs or active ingredients such as vitamin A or AHAs and perfumed products should be stopped for a minimum of 3-7 days.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks after a Dermapen treatment as the skin will be sensitive.
  • Any redness may be easily concealed with a mineral make-up during recovery.
  • It is recommended to avoid high-cardio workouts and any activities that may cause heat or sweat for a minimum of 48 hours post-treatment.
  • In case the skin develops a crust or a scab, you must not pick it as that may lead to scarring.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair removal

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and how does it work?

The IPL machine will send a beam of light pulses on to the skin; these light pulses then penetrate below the layers of the skin to disrupt how the hair follicle grows and destroy any existing hairs.

IPL works best at removing hair when it's actively growing. However not all the hair in the treatment area will be in this phase at any given time, the best way to explain the growth of hair is that it grows in cycles this is why we never have bald periods we always have hair. IPL treatments will be spaced out over a period of time. This is to make sure that hair which isn't treated in one session is affected in the next. The way hair grows is slightly different for everyone, so treatments are tailored to suit you.

IPL Procedure

The hair removal procedure is straightforward. You will be asked to lie on a couch and make yourself comfortable. As a safety measure, we will both wear eye protection. The laser-trained aesthetician will set up the equipment and apply a cooling gel to the area the handheld unit will then be passed over the area. Treatment sensation varies but is often described as 'a flick of an elastic band'. Most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable. Sometimes the skin swells or reddens slightly, depending on which part of your body is being treated.

Treatment times vary depending on the person and the area being treated.

Depending on what treatment you're having, the procedure can be as brief as ten minutes.

Normally six to eight treatment sessions are needed to provide a permanent reduction of hair growth. We spread our treatments out to make sure that hair that isn't treated in one session is affected in the next. Facial hair tends to be more stubborn and may need more treatment sessions.

Treatments are carried out usually every 4 weeks for face and six weeks for the body. The number of hair removal sessions depends on various factors, including where the hair is, how thick it is and also your particular skin type and hair colour.

For the best results we recommend that you complete the full series of treatment sessions.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin (pigment). Fair hair however, contains less melanin (pigment) and is harder to treat. Grey/white hair has no melanin so it not suitable for treatment.

Skin Rejuvenation

Procedure

Intense Pulsed Light system release precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin. In addition, specific lesions such as thread veins, age spots and freckles can be targeted resulting in a more uniform complexion. The skin becomes firmer, appears more radiant and enlarged pores are reduced. Treatments are carried out every 2-3 weeks and are recommended in a course of 6. Skin Rejuvenation Epworth

Diamond Peel Dermabrasion

Diamond Peel is crystal free dermabrasion. This is a non-surgical procedure in which the diamond cut hand piece will gently remove dead skin cells and debris from the surface of the skin to immediately reveal brighter, cleaner and a smooth texture behind. The treatment stimulates cellular renewal and collagen production. It is a perfect complimentary treatment for anti-aging results.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Almost everyone will benefit from this treatment due to lifestyle choices and the environmental factors which we subject our skin to such as sun exposure, pollution, climate changes and other severe environmental elements.

These elements contribute to the aging and weathering of our skin. Day-to-day life can leave your skin looking dull, haggard, and worn. Although we can't avoid the world around us, diamond peel treatment can rejuvenate our skin by removing all those external pollutants that constantly attack our largest organ.

The Diamond Peel speeds up the healing process for existing blemishes and is safe to use on acne-erupted skin. Results are achieved with a combination of monthly treatments, homecare and skincare changes. This treatment is highly recommended to achieve and maintain healthy skin.

Radio frequency

Radio frequency uses radio waves; these waves are directed through the handheld device onto the skin to pass deep into the dermal layer. This creates a heating effect which in turn stimulates collagen production and tightening. The energy will provide an immediate and dramatic change in skin appearance. The result of collagen remodeling is tighter youthful looking skin.

Radio frequency treatments have been used medically for many decades. The innovative technology is ideal for targeting loose and sagging skin and is perfect for treating the early signs of aging.

The treatment is relaxing, pain free and carries no side effects. A course of three treatments are recommended for long lasting results of up to two years but this is a fabulous treatment for a special social engagement.

MesoPeel

What is it?

Ameson MesoPeel is a professional chemical peeling system based on organic acids, aimed at rejuvenating the skin and making it glowing, bright and soft.

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are organic molecules; The AHAs used include mandelic acid, lactic acid and glycolic acid.

In particular, AHAs:

  • Normalise the keratinisation process, thus restoring the epidermis normal rhythms.
  • Activate the skin's rejuvenation process, increasing collagen and elastin production.
  • Hydrate the skin.
  • In synergy, enhance the action of other active components.

BHA & AZA:

The action of beta hydroxy acid (BHA), salicylic acid – which, as a keratolytic agent, has a potent exfoliating, anti-inammatory and antimicrobial action – and azelaic acid's action (AZA) is similar.

Thanks to the specific organic acids used, their concentration in combination with the pH of the peeling products, as well as the targeted application protocols, the AMESON MESOPEEL series is superior when it comes to meeting the needs and addressing the problems of different skin types, under different climatic conditions.

Chemical peel protocols are either autonomous or integrated in to Dermapen microneedling.

Dermaplaning

What is Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation similar in theory to microdermabrasion.

An esthetician grade, sterile blade is stroked along the skin at an angle to gently remove dead skin cells from the epidermis. Dermaplaning also temporarily removes the fine vellus hair of the face, leaving a very smooth surface for flawless make-up application.

As with any type of exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells allows home care products to be more effective, reduces the appearance of fine lines, evens skin tone and assists in reducing milia, closed and open comedones, and minor breakouts associated with congested pores.

Dermaplaning can be an effective exfoliation method for clients that have tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin, sensitive skin or allergies that prevent the use of microdermabrasion or chemical peels.

Am I Suitable?

Dermaplaning is suitable for all including pregnant women. It is not suitable for acne skins.

What are the Benefits?
